British concert pianist, made a DBE in 1991. Student (1929-1934) at the Royal Academy of Music, where she was awarded the Ada Lewis Scholarship and studied with Ambrose Coviello. Appointed a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Music (1948). Her teachers also included Weingarten, Verne, Steurmann and especially Tobias Matthay, and her recordings included the first complete Rachmaninoff preludes.
